Best UK Alcohol-Free Craft Breweries: The Independents Worth Knowing

Five years ago, alcohol-free beer in the UK was a wasteland — Heineken 0.0, a few imports, the occasional brewery experiment. Now there are dozens of serious UK alcohol-free producers. This guide covers eight of the best-known independents — what each one's known for, what to drink, and where they fit.
How the UK alcohol-free craft scene has matured
The UK has been transformed into one of the most credible alcohol-free brewing markets in the world over the past five years. The driver has been a combination of shifting drinking culture (more mindful drinking, more sober-curious consumers), better brewing technology (specialty yeasts, dealcoholisation methods that preserve flavour), and a wave of independent brewers who took the category seriously rather than treating it as an afterthought.
These eight independents are a good place to start. Each has a distinct identity and a distinct strength — and between them, they cover most of what serious AF drinkers might want.
Northern Monk — top-tier craft AF
Holbeck, Leeds. One of the UK's most respected craft breweries, with a small alcohol-free line that it says is brewed in Leeds alongside its full-strength beers. Holy Faith (now sold as Faith Alcohol Free, 0.4%; 8.8/10 in our directory) and the limited Heaven AF Chocolate Maple Stout (8.9/10) are among the highest-rated alcohol-free beers we list; Beyond is its 0.3% New World IPA. Mash Gang — adventurous alcohol-free brewing
UK alcohol-free brand launched in 2020, with Jordan Childs as head brewer. Mash Gang doesn't own a brewery: its beers are brewed with partner breweries, and it's known for collaborations such as Out of Nowhere, a West Coast pils brewed by Siren. Mash Gang says it has brewed more than 200 alcohol-free beers. Big Drop — one of the UK's first alcohol-free specialists
Founded 2016 by Rob Fink and James Kindred, and one of the first UK brands dedicated to alcohol-free beer. Big Drop has never owned a brewery: its beers are contract-brewed, recently by Renegade in Berkshire and Powderkeg in Devon. It has a long list of international awards; Galactic Milk Stout and Pine Trail Pale Ale are the headliners. Read more in our Big Drop review.
Drop Bear — Swansea’s vegan, gluten-free brewery
Swansea, founded 2019 by Joelle and Sarah Drummond, with its own alcohol-free brewery, the former Tomos Watkin site in Llansamlet, taken over in 2023 and officially opened in January 2024. Female-founded, a certified B Corp since 2021 and, by its own account, certified carbon neutral; Joelle Drummond has said she believes it is the world's first LGBTQ+ alcohol-free brewery. Every beer is vegan and labelled gluten-free. Brulo — Edinburgh's hop-forward alcohol-free brand
Edinburgh-based, founded 2019 by James Brown, co-founder of Beer52. Brulo doesn't own a brewery: the Lust For Life can says it's brewed at De Proefbrouwerij in Belgium. Hop-forward and design-led; Lust For Life DDH IPA is the flagship, with two gold stars at the Great Taste Awards 2026, and 7 Hop 7 Grain puts seven hops over seven grains. Vegan range. Jump Ship — Scotland's dedicated alcohol-free brewery
Pathhead, Midlothian. Founded December 2019 by Sonja Mitchell, brewing in its own dedicated alcohol-free brewery since early 2024, and describes itself as Scotland's first dedicated alcohol-free brewery. Every beer is vegan and gluten-free, and none is dealcoholised. Award winners include Yardarm (World Beer Awards 2021), Stoker's Stout (Best No Alcohol Beer, Scottish Beer Awards 2024), Steamboat (Indie Beer Scotland Awards 2025) and Jackstaff (gold, World Beer Awards 2025). Nirvana — East London's alcohol-free-only brewery
Leyton, East London. Set up in 2016 by Becky Kean and her family, brewing in its own Leyton brewhouse since 2017. Nirvana describes itself as the first UK brewery dedicated entirely to alcohol-free beer, and as the first female-owned UK alcohol-free beer brand. German-inspired range — Bavarian-style Hefeweizen (produced in Germany), Helles and Pils — alongside modern UK styles, made with four core ingredients: malt, hops, water and yeast. Lucky Saint — the breakthrough mainstream brand
UK brand launched in 2018 by Luke Boase. Its Unfiltered Lager (8.7/10) is brewed in Bavaria and dealcoholised by vacuum distillation, and did as much as any beer to prove alcohol-free lager could compete on flavour. Stocked at Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Ocado and Morrisons, on draught in over 1,000 pubs and at the Lucky Saint pub in Marylebone.
