Tasting notes and what to expect

Big Drop Galactic Milk Stout is one of the most-awarded alcohol-free beers in the world — multiple World Beer Awards and Great British Beer Awards medals — and a benchmark for AF stout brewing. Brewed with lactose (which adds sweetness and body unfermentable by yeast), it sits at the gateway end of the AF stout category: rich and indulgent without the imperial-strength intensity of Northern Monk's Heaven AF series.

Appearance and aroma: Properly black, with a thick tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, milk chocolate, lightly burnt coffee, and a sweet creamy backdrop from the lactose. Recognisably stout — no AF-beer awkwardness in the nose.

Palate and finish: Full body — milk-stout-shaped rather than dry-stout-shaped. Coffee and dark chocolate flavours through the middle, creamy lactose sweetness running underneath, moderate bitterness, finishing sweet rather than dry. The lactose does most of the body work — without it, this would taste much thinner.

Food pairings: Excellent with chocolate-based desserts, oysters and other seafood (traditional stout pairings), grilled meats with charred crust, blue cheeses, and richer winter foods. The sweetness softens spicy foods better than dry stouts manage.

How it compares: Sweeter and creamier than Guinness 0.0 (which is dry-stout-shaped). Less intense than Northern Monk Heaven AF (which is imperial-pastry-stout-shaped). Big Drop Galactic Milk sits in the everyday-AF-stout sweet spot — broader appeal than Heaven AF, more flavour than Guinness 0.0. Frequently asked questions

Is Big Drop Galactic Milk Stout vegan?
Galactic Milk Stout contains lactose (milk sugar), so it is NOT vegan. It is, however, vegetarian. Big Drop's Pine Trail Pale Ale, Reef Point Lager, and Poolside DDH IPA are vegan; the milk stout is the exception in the range because lactose is integral to the style.
Is Big Drop Galactic Milk Stout gluten-free?
Big Drop have historically pursued gluten-free certification for parts of their range, and Galactic Milk Stout is typically labelled gluten-free. Always check the current label — formulations occasionally change and gluten-free status with them.
How many calories are in Big Drop Galactic Milk Stout?
79 kcal per 330ml — on the higher end for AF beer, which reflects both the full body and the lactose sweetness (lactose is calorific even though yeast can't ferment it). Stouts in general sit at the calorie-richer end of AF beer. Compare in our calorie calculator.
Where can I buy Big Drop Galactic Milk Stout?
Direct from bigdropbrew.com, UK alcohol-free specialists (Dry Drinker, Wise Bartender), and selected major UK supermarkets. Distribution is broad but availability varies by store — a bigger supermarket is more likely to stock the full Big Drop range.
