What is Bonfire Stout?
Bonfire Stout is the dark beer in Drop Bear’s core range. The twist is smoked malt, which Drop Bear says gives “notes of espresso, smoke, and dark chocolate”; Dry Drinker describes roasted malt, coffee and chocolate with a balanced bitterness, and suggests serving it at 10–12°C with desserts or cheese.
Many dessert-style alcohol-free stouts are made with lactose. Bonfire isn’t: the ingredients are water, malted barley, wheat, hops and yeast, Drop Bear says it uses no animal products, and it’s labelled gluten-free, with each batch tested under 20ppm. That puts it in both our vegan and gluten-free guides.
The label gives 17 kcal per 100ml, or 55 kcal a can, which ties it for the lightest stout in our calorie comparison tool.

About Drop Bear
Drop Bear was founded in Swansea in 2019 by Joelle and Sarah Drummond, who started brewing alcohol-free beer in their kitchen. It brews in its own brewery in Llansamlet, Swansea, the former Tomos Watkin site, which it took over in 2023, officially opened in January 2024 and calls the UK’s largest alcohol-free brewery. Every beer is 0.5%, vegan and labelled gluten-free (under 20ppm), and Drop Bear has been a certified B Corp since 2021.
