The story behind Nowt Peculier
The name is the joke, and it’s a good one: Theakston — the historic family brewer of Masham, North Yorkshire — is famous for Old Peculier, one of English brewing’s most storied dark ales. Nowt Peculier (‘nothing peculiar’, in proper Yorkshire) is its alcohol-free descendant: a true 0.0% dark beer with the rich, roasty character of the house style.
Genuine 0.0 stouts and dark ales are scarce — our Beer Finder testing found only a handful in the entire directory — which makes this one of the most valuable bottles on the dark shelf, alongside Guinness 0.0. A heritage cask name doing alcohol-free with a wink: exactly how it should be done.
