It's a Madrid-themed beer in roughly the way a Tex-Mex restaurant in Leeds is Texan. (Searches for “is Madrí brewed in Burton-on-Trent” are on the right track.)

Estrella Damm 0.0, meanwhile, is the real thing: brewed by S.A. Damm in Barcelona — the address is on the can — by a company that's been making Estrella since 1876, using the house grain bill of barley malt and rice that defines the Damm taste. Round one is not close. Estrella 1–0.

Authenticity doesn't pour itself, though — and this round is closer. Madrí Zero does exactly what the full-strength version does: soft cereal sweetness, gentle body, aggressively inoffensive. Estrella Damm 0.0 pours a shade paler and drinks a shade drier — that rice in the grain bill keeps it light and crisp where Madrí is soft and sweet, and the finish snaps shut in a way that genuinely evokes a terrace in the Born rather than a beer garden in Bolton.
