The story behind Amstel 0.0
Amstel takes its name from the Amsterdam river it was founded beside in 1870, and today — as part of the Heineken family — it plays the dependable everyman to its stablemate’s green-bottle glamour. Amstel 0.0 follows suit: maltier and a touch fuller than Heineken 0.0, a proper session lager at 25 kcal.
It’s the pick of the Dutch zeros for drinkers who find ultra-crisp lagers a little thin — more bread, more body, same easy finish. The full Dutch landscape, from this to the world’s first alcohol-free Trappist beer, is mapped in our Dutch alcohol-free guide.
This is the roast-dinner lager of the zeros — malty enough to stand up to food, easy enough to session through an afternoon of sport. Keep it alongside a crisper zero (a Heineken 0.0 or a Spanish lager) and you’ve covered both moods.
