Tasting notes and what to expect
Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% is the alcohol-free version of Italy's flagship premium lager — and the AF lager most likely to be on a UK pub draught line alongside Heineken 0.0. Brewed in Italy and brought to the UK by parent company Asahi Europe, Peroni 0.0% is engineered to track the flavour profile of regular Nastro Azzurro (5.1% ABV).
Appearance and aroma: Pale gold, brilliantly clear, white-foam head. Aroma is soft pale-malt with a faint floral hop note — clean, crisp, recognisably Italian-lager-shaped. The aroma is delicate rather than expressive, in the Peroni house style.
Palate and finish: Light body — lighter than Lucky Saint, comparable to Heineken 0.0. Soft malt sweetness up front, gentle hop bitterness, a clean dry finish. The body is the trade-off — Peroni 0.0% is light and refreshing rather than substantial. Drink well-chilled (below 5°C); warmer than that and the AF-lager character becomes more apparent.
Food pairings: Italian and Mediterranean food in particular — pizza, pasta with lighter sauces, antipasti, grilled fish, salads. Also works as a thirst-quencher with takeaway and casual-dining food. The light body suits warm-weather and lunchtime drinking.
How it compares: Lighter than Lucky Saint Unfiltered Lager. Comparable to Heineken 0.0 in body, with a slightly more aromatic profile (Peroni's hop character is more present). Cleaner than supermarket own-brand 0.0% lagers. The AF lager most associated with premium-lager territory in UK pubs and restaurants. See the alcohol-free lager hub for context.
