Tasting notes and what to expect

Hazy Jane AF is BrewDog's alcohol-free take on their hazy IPA — the same hazy NEIPA template that drives the highest-rated AF beers in the UK, brewed at 0.5% ABV to BrewDog's commercial scale. It's their answer to the soft, juicy, low-bitterness end of AF IPA, where Punk AF and Nanny State sit on the hoppier-bitterer side.

Appearance and aroma: Properly hazy — full opacity, pale-yellow-to-golden, fluffy white head. Big juicy aroma: mango, pineapple, mandarin orange, with a soft cereal-grain note from the oat-and-wheat grist underneath. Aroma-led rather than bitterness-led, in the hazy IPA tradition.

Palate and finish: Medium-to-full body — softer mouthfeel than Punk AF, with the characteristic pillowy texture of a well-made hazy. Tropical fruit flavours run through the middle, with low perceived bitterness (much lower than Punk AF or Nanny State), finishing softly rather than with a sharp bite. The closest BrewDog gets to the modern juice-bomb hazy template.

Food pairings: Works with the foods hazy IPAs traditionally pair with — fried chicken, spicy ramen, Asian-leaning dishes, soft cheeses, fruit-led desserts. The fruit-forward profile bridges savoury and sweet pairings well.

How it compares: Less aggressive than Punk AF or Nanny State, but slightly less polished than Northern Monk Holy Faith or Lucky Saint Hazy IPA in the dedicated-AF-craft tier. The AF hazy IPA most likely to be on a UK supermarket shelf, which is its strength — broad availability with credible craft credentials. See the hazy IPA hub for the full category.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hazy Jane AF a hazy IPA or just a hazy pale ale?
BrewDog label it a hazy IPA — and at 0.5% ABV it sits in the AF IPA category by intention rather than by full-strength ABV (the original Hazy Jane is 5%). For the distinction between hazy IPA and hazy pale ale in alcohol-free, see our hazy IPA vs pale ale explainer.
Is Hazy Jane AF really 0.5% ABV?
Yes — within UK and EU "alcohol-free" labelling thresholds. The full-strength Hazy Jane is 5.0% ABV, so the AF version is one of the bigger AF-versus-original ABV gaps in BrewDog's range.
How many calories are in Hazy Jane AF?
40 kcal per 330ml — slightly higher than Punk AF, reflecting the additional residual sugars and oat-derived body that give a hazy its fuller mouthfeel. Compare specific beers in our calorie calculator.
What's the difference between Hazy Jane AF and Lucky Saint Hazy IPA?
Both are AF hazy IPAs at 0.5% ABV. Hazy Jane AF is broader-distributed (most supermarkets) and a slightly more commercial recipe. Lucky Saint Hazy IPA is more polished on body and dry-hop expression but harder to find outside specialist retailers. They're close enough that personal taste decides — blind, most drinkers have to think hard to tell them apart.
