Tasting notes and what to expect

Holy Faith is Northern Monk's flagship alcohol-free beer — a 0.5% ABV hazy pale ale that sits at the top of the UK AF craft conversation. It's frequently cited by drinkers as one of the AF beers genuinely indistinguishable from full-strength craft. The recipe builds on Northern Monk's Faith pale ale (full-strength), with the same Citra-Mosaic-Galaxy hop character and the same oat-and-wheat soft body.

Appearance and aroma: Densely hazy pale yellow — fully opaque, looking like fresh tropical juice. Tall fluffy white head. Aroma is huge for an AF beer: ripe mango, papaya, passion fruit, a clean citrus-pith note, and the soft cereal-grain backdrop that signals the wheat-and-oat grist.

Palate and finish: Full, soft, pillowy body — this is where Holy Faith pulls ahead of most AF beers. Juicy tropical fruit flavours run through the entire palate, low perceived bitterness, a creamy mouthfeel that lingers, finishing soft rather than sharp. Drink properly chilled (4-6°C) — served warmer, the residual sweetness becomes more obvious.

Food pairings: Excellent with spicy and rich foods that benefit from the soft, fruit-forward profile — Thai curries, Korean fried chicken, tacos al pastor, soft cheeses, mango-based desserts. Also drinks well as a standalone aperitif.

How it compares: Within the elite tier of AF hazies — alongside Lucky Saint Hazy IPA, Verdant Lightbulb 0.5%, and the best Mash Gang collaborations. Softer and fruitier than BrewDog Hazy Jane AF, more polished than most supermarket AF hazies. The AF beer most often given as a gift to convert sceptical full-strength drinkers. Frequently asked questions

Is Holy Faith a hazy pale ale or a hazy IPA?
Northern Monk label it a hazy pale ale, though at 0.5% ABV the distinction is more about hop intensity than ABV. By style, the soft body, low bitterness, and fruit-forward hop profile place it in the broad hazy NEIPA family. See our hazy IPA vs pale ale explainer for the category distinction.
Is Holy Faith vegan?
Holy Faith is listed by Northern Monk as suitable for vegans. Not all of Northern Monk's beers are vegan — some recipes use lactose or other animal-derived ingredients — so always check the individual product label or Northern Monk's website if vegan suitability matters for your purchase.
How many calories are in Holy Faith?
58 kcal per 330ml — on the higher side for AF beer, reflecting the fuller body and oat-derived softness that defines the style. The calorie count is close to a typical full-strength session beer and noticeably above most AF lagers. Compare in our calorie calculator.
Where can I buy Holy Faith?
Direct from northernmonk.com, UK alcohol-free specialists like Dry Drinker, selected Tesco and Waitrose stores, and a growing number of UK independent bottle shops. Distribution is broader than Northern Monk's experimental releases but narrower than mainstream brands.
