The story behind Krombacher Weizen
Krombacher has brewed in Kreuztal-Krombach in western Germany since 1803, growing into one of the country’s biggest breweries on its famous Felsquellwasser — rock-spring water — and a clean, classic pilsner style. Its alcohol-free range is among Germany’s most complete, and this Weizen is the wheat-beer wing of it.
Expect the full Weissbier experience at 0.5%: hazy pour, banana and clove from the wheat yeast, soft body, gentle sweetness — the style that survives de-alcoholisation best, done by a brewery with two centuries of practice.
Pour it tall, swirl the last of the bottle in, and pair with brunch eggs, roast chicken or a mountain of pretzels. See the whole German wheat field in our round-up; brewery story on the Krombacher hub. Krombacher’s alcohol-free pilsner sibling is a UK supermarket staple, but the Weizen is the connoisseur’s pick of the pair.
