Tasting notes and what to expect
Run Wild IPA is Athletic Brewing's flagship — and the alcohol-free West Coast IPA most often cited as the global benchmark for the style. Brewed at 0.5% ABV using a process designed from the ground up for alcohol-free brewing (rather than alcohol-removal from finished beer), Run Wild proves that AF can compete credibly in the hop-aggressive end of the IPA spectrum.
Appearance and aroma: Bright golden, with light haze, off-white head. Aroma is Pacific-Northwest-classic — pine resin, grapefruit, lemon zest, a fresh herbal note from the Northwest hop bill. The hop expression is genuine craft IPA territory, not a watered-down version of one.
Palate and finish: Medium body, defined bitterness in the middle (more assertive than most AF IPAs), citrus and pine hop flavours running through, a clean dry finish with lingering hop bitterness. Drinks like a session-strength West Coast IPA rather than an alcohol-free attempt at the style.
Food pairings: Strong with classic IPA pairings — burgers, ribs, spicy chicken, Indian curries, sharp cheeses, fish tacos. The hop bitterness cuts through rich foods particularly well.
How it compares: Cleaner and drier than BrewDog Punk AF (which leans more tropical and softer). More West-Coast-shaped than Mash Gang HAWG (which is hazier and softer).
