Kapuziner: Bavarian wheat beer heritage
Kapuziner is the wheat-beer marque of the historic Kulmbacher brewery in Kulmbach, Upper Franconia — a town with one of the deepest brewing pedigrees in Bavaria. Its beers are classic Bavarian Weissbier through and through: pale, hazy, yeast-driven, all banana and clove.
German brewers treat alcohol-free wheat beer as a sports drink as much as a beer — isotonic, refreshing, and utterly normalised — which is why the German AF wheat category is so strong, as our German round-up shows.
Kulmbach’s brewing pedigree runs deep enough that the town hosts one of Bavaria’s great beer weeks, and its wheat beers have always travelled well — the alkoholfrei version keeps the same yeast-driven character because the style’s signature flavours come from fermentation compounds that survive gentle de-alcoholisation largely intact. That’s why AF weissbier so often beats AF lager on flavour.
Kapuziner on Unhopped
We list Kapuziner Weissbier at 0.5%: hazy gold with soft banana and clove character — a textbook alkoholfrei Weissbier from a brewery that’s been making the real thing for generations. If you like it, our directory’s German wheat section runs deep.
