Maisel's Weisse: a Bavarian wheat beer innovator
Brauerei Gebr. Maisel, maker of Maisel's Weisse, is a family-owned Bavarian brewery in Bayreuth, founded in 1887 and run today by the fourth generation of the Maisel family. It is one of Germany's leading wheat beer producers.
On Unhopped, Maisel is represented by Maisel's Weisse Alkoholfrei, an alcohol-free Bavarian wheat beer at 0.5% ABV.
Founded by two brothers
Brothers Hans and Eberhard Maisel founded the brewery in Bayreuth, Upper Franconia, in 1887, building on a family brewing tradition that already stretched back generations. It has stayed in the family ever since, now led by Jeff Maisel.
The ‘champagne of wheat beer’
Maisel made its name with Maisel's Weisse, launched in 1955 — including the crystal-clear ‘champagne wheat’ (today's Kristall) that helped popularise the style. The range now spans Original, Kristall, Dunkel, Leicht and Alkoholfrei, and the Bayreuth home includes the Maisel's Beer Discovery World museum.
The alcohol-free wheat beer
Maisel's Weisse Alkoholfrei carries the brewery's wheat-beer expertise to 0.5% ABV — a fruity, full-flavoured Bavarian Hefeweizen, naturally isotonic and lower in calories than the original.
Why Maisel matters
A genuine, fourth-generation Bavarian wheat-beer specialist makes for one of the more authentic alcohol-free Hefeweizens you can buy.
