UNLTD is a British alcohol-free beer with a clear point of view: that a 0.5% beer shouldn't ask you to compromise on taste. It was founded in 2020 by Johnny Johnson, and the origin story is refreshingly straightforward. After taking a three-month break from drinking in 2019, Johnson found that the good alcohol-free beer he wanted simply wasn't turning up in pubs and bars — so he set out to brew it. UNLTD launched in June 2020, is run out of Hertfordshire and brewed in West Sussex.
Rather than brewing a full-strength beer and stripping the alcohol out, UNLTD uses controlled fermentation to arrive at 0.5% with the flavour intact. The beers are vegan and gluten-free, low in calories, and brewed with added B vitamins — a distinctive spec that has helped UNLTD stand out on shelves and win a run of industry awards.
The range
UNLTD's core line-up is built around two beers. The UNLTD Lager (0.5%) is the crisp, sessionable everyday option — light citrus aromas, a hint of honeyed malt and a clean, subtly bitter finish, at a low calorie count that puts it among the lighter lagers we track in our lowest-calorie rankings. Alongside it sits the UNLTD IPA (0.5%), a bolder, hop-forward beer — bright citrus and tropical fruit over a balanced bitter backbone, and remarkably light at roughly 23 calories a can. Both are vegan, gluten-free and sugar-free. See how they compare on our lager and IPA hubs and in our best alcohol-free lagers guide.
A brewery that gives back
UNLTD is a certified B Corporation, and community partnerships sit close to the brand's centre rather than at its edges. It is a proud partner of the blood-cancer charity Cure Leukaemia, the official alcohol-free beer partner of the endurance-cycling challenge The Tour 21, and has backed Alcohol Change UK's Sober Spring campaign. It's the kind of programme that reads as part of the business rather than bolted on for marketing.
