Heaps Normal Alcohol-Free Beers

Heaps Normal is an Australian alcohol-free beer brand that launched in Canberra in July 2020 and is now based in Sydney. It doesn’t own a brewery; its beers are made in Melbourne. It marks every beer vegan, it’s a certified B Corp, and it has been sold in the UK since 2025. All three of its UK beers are in our directory, led by Quiet XPA at 8.5/10.

Who are Heaps Normal?

Heaps Normal names three co-founders: pro surfer Jordy Smith, “beer-brander” Andy Miller, who is chief executive, and brewer Ben Holdstock. Early press also named Pete Brennan, its first head of brand, as a co-founder. The brand says its journey started in 2018 and that it launched in July 2020. It describes itself as “Ngunnawal/Canberra born, Naarm/Melbourne made”, and it’s now based in Marrickville, Sydney.

It raised $8.5m (Australian) in 2021 from investors including Simon Griffiths of Who Gives A Crap, and in August 2025 Robbie Williams invested and joined as a creative collaborator. Heaps Normal calls itself “independent, Aussie owned and made”, and we found no brewing group among its owners. It has been a certified B Corp since February 2023.

Heaps Normal arrived in the UK in June 2025 through the drinks distributor James Clay, and its UK online shop sells all three core beers in four-packs and cases of 24, with free UK delivery.

How Heaps Normal brews to under 0.5%

Heaps Normal says its beers are “brewed in the same way as normal craft beers, using the same premium ingredients”, and that they contain “a trace amount of alcohol due to the natural fermentation process”. Its UK distributor says nothing is removed. Early press named Brick Lane Brewing in Victoria as its brewing partner; today Heaps Normal just says its beer is “Naarm/Melbourne made”.

Heaps Normal says its beers contain only water, malt, hops and yeast, with no preservatives, and every beer is marked vegan. They aren’t gluten-free: Heaps Normal calls them low gluten, under 200ppm, gives 56ppm for Quiet XPA and 29ppm for Half Day Hazy, and says they aren’t suitable for people with coeliac disease.

The Heaps Normal range

Quiet XPA, the beer Heaps Normal launched with in 2020, is the flagship. Another Lager, a “classic Aussie non-alcoholic lager”, followed in 2022, and Half Day Hazy, a fruity hazy pale ale, at the end of 2022. All three have 16 to 19 kcal per 100ml. In Australia Heaps Normal also sells Third IPA, a West Coast IPA, and it has made limited releases; the UK shop sells only the core three.

Awards

Heaps Normal’s awards page lists dozens of medals. Highlights: Half Day Hazy won gold and a Country Winner title at the 2026 World Beer Awards, Another Lager won World Beer Awards gold in 2023 and 2024, and Quiet XPA won gold there in 2021 and 2022, when Broadsheet reported it was also named the World’s Best No & Low Alcohol Pale.

Dry Drinker had Half Day Hazy and Another Lager in stock when we checked in October 2026, at £13.89 for six cans; Quiet XPA was sold out there and at Wise Bartender.
