Brew York: a passion project turned craft brewery

Brew York was founded in 2016 by friends Wayne Smith and Lee Grabham. The pair met at a mutual friend's stag do, bonded over a shared love of craft beer, and started home brewing together — Brew York followed not long after. Their original ambition was to build a brewery in York's bustling city centre with a popular on-site Tap Room, creating a destination where drinkers could enjoy beer right next to the tanks it was brewed in.

From homebrewing to two York facilities

Brew York now brews across two York facilities: their original city-centre brewhouse with the on-site Tap Room, and a state-of-the-art production facility in Osbaldwick, ten minutes up the road. Their approach has remained consistent throughout: brew the kinds of beers they'd love to drink themselves, in can, keg and cask. They typically have at least twenty different fresh beers available at any time across their venues.

What Brew York is known for

The brewery's reputation is built on a quirky, playful approach to brewing combined with proper attention to detail. Beer names lean heavily into Yorkshire pride, pop culture, and pun-craft — Rhubarbra Streisand, Viking DNA, Dame Judi Quench give a flavour. Their inspiration comes from Yorkshire surroundings, hop and ingredient experiments, and even cocktails or desserts they've enjoyed and want to translate into beer. Their Empress Tonkoko range has become particularly recognised among UK craft drinkers.

Brew York's Low/No Alcohol range

Brew York runs a properly built-out Low/No Alcohol range, all at 0.5% ABV. The current line-up includes L.A. Coney (Low Alcohol IPA), La Juice Forsyth (Low Alcohol Fruited IPA), Bald Eagle (Low Alcohol Lager), and Loris (Low Alcohol Pale). The four are also available as a No & Low Alcohol mixed 4-pack — a smart way to work through the range in one purchase. The breadth across IPA, fruited IPA, lager and pale is unusual for a craft brewery's NA work, where most stop at one or two SKUs.

Where to find Brew York alcohol-free

Available direct from Brew York's online shop, through their central York Tap Room on Walmgate, their Osbaldwick venue, and through their other Yorkshire-area pubs and tap venues. Brew York beers also appeared in the curated DryDrop Founders Box — a strong external indicator of how the NA-curated craft community views their work.

Who Brew York alcohol-free is for

Best for: craft drinkers wanting genuine variety in NA format; anyone who enjoys playful, character-led craft branding; fans of Yorkshire's modern brewing scene. Particularly recommended for drinkers visiting York — the central Tap Room is genuinely worth the trip.
