Force Majeure Alcohol-Free Beers
We have reviewed all 5 alcohol-free beers from Force Majeure. Their top-rated beer scores 8.1/10.
Force Majeure is the only Belgian brewery dedicated entirely to alcohol-free beer — and it does the hardest thing in the category: faithful alcohol-free versions of classic Belgian abbey styles.
Who are Force Majeure?
Force Majeure was founded in 2019 by Stijn Panis, a triathlete who combined his appetite for Belgian specialty beer with a passion for entrepreneurship. Based in Genk, the brewery set out to do something no one else in Belgium was doing: brew alcohol-free beer exclusively, in the traditional Belgian styles that the country is famous for.
That focus makes Force Majeure unusual. Belgium's brewing identity is built on high-strength abbey and Trappist styles — blondes, dubbels and tripels that are notoriously difficult to reproduce without alcohol, because so much of their character comes from the alcohol itself. Force Majeure took on exactly that challenge.
What makes Force Majeure different?
Belgian styles, not just lager and pale ale
Where almost every alcohol-free brewery sticks to lager, pale ale and IPA, Force Majeure brews Blonde, Bruin (a dubbel-style brown), Tripel, Tripel Hop and Kriek. Its Tripel is billed as the first — and for a long time the only — alcohol-free Tripel in the world, with the spicy, three-grain character the style demands.
A genuine Belgian point of difference
For anyone who loves Belgian beer but wants to drink alcohol-free, Force Majeure is close to unique. The Kriek delivers the sweet-then-sour cherry profile of a traditional Belgian fruit beer; the Bruin brings caramel and roasted-malt richness; the Tripel Hop layers extra bitterness over the classic tripel base.
Brewed for flavour, with a few modern aids
To carry the flavour of these complex styles at 0% alcohol, Force Majeure uses natural fruit in the Kriek and a touch of sweetener across the range. The beers contain barley and wheat, so they are not gluten-free, but they're a remarkable technical achievement for the styles they take on.
The Force Majeure range
We list five Force Majeure beers: the Blonde (the original), the Double Bruin, the Tripel, the Tripel Hop, and the Kriek. Between them they cover more traditional Belgian territory than any other alcohol-free brewer.
Is Force Majeure worth trying?
If you love Belgian beer, Force Majeure is essential — there is simply nothing else like a credible alcohol-free Tripel or Kriek. The beers won't fool a seasoned abbey-ale drinker into thinking they're full strength, but as alcohol-free interpretations of famously difficult styles, they're a genuine achievement and a welcome change from yet another AF lager.
