Browar Zamkowy Cieszyn: Poland's oldest working brewery
Browar Zamkowy Cieszyn (Cieszyn Castle Brewery) is the oldest continuously operating brewery in Poland, built in 1846 on Castle Hill in the town of Cieszyn under the Habsburg dukes — and still brewing by traditional methods today.
On Unhopped, it is represented by Cieszyn Polish Lager, an alcohol-free lager at 0.5% ABV.
A Habsburg castle brewery
The brewery was built in 1846 at the initiative of the Habsburg Archduke Charles Louis, Duke of Cieszyn, with his son Albrecht Frederick regarded as its founding father. Erected on Castle Hill beside the ducal residence — hence ‘Zamkowy’, meaning ‘castle’ — it was one of the first industrial breweries in the region.
A living museum of brewing
Nearly two centuries on, Cieszyn still brews using traditional bottom-fermentation in open vats, with historic equipment, and operates as a ‘living museum of brewing’ on the Silesian Industrial Monuments Route. It is today the smallest brewery in the Żywiec Group.
The alcohol-free lager
Cieszyn Polish Lager brings that long brewing tradition to an alcohol-free 0.5% ABV — a clean, classic Central European lager.
Why Cieszyn matters
Poland's oldest working brewery, still brewing the old way, brings genuine Central European heritage to the alcohol-free shelf.
