Fritz Brinkhoff (1848–1927) was the celebrated first brewmaster of the Dortmunder Union brewery (founded 1873) and reputedly one of the highest-paid brewers of his day. In 1887, a pale beer of his became a runaway success — the origin of Brinkhoff's No.1, the golden Dortmunder pilsner that still bears his name.
